How do we get to the lodge if we come to National Park by bus/train?
We recommend travelling by car when staying at The Crossing Lodge to give you complete independence to enjoy the full range of experiences available in our beautiful region. There are shuttle services available locally, but pre-arrangement is recommended to ensure your needs are met.
How do we find The Crossing Lodge?
Visit our Location page for details.
How do we get up the mountain if we don’t want to take our car?
In winter there is a snow shuttle from National Park Village to whakapapa village and the ski fields operating.
Can I take my own car to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing?
There is no all day parking at Mangatepopo carpark (starting point). There is a four-hour parking limit that will be enforced with clamping or towing of cars, vans and campervans.
Ketetahi Road end (the finish point) has limited parking and will have restricted parking in places and single lane traffic.
We recommend you book on one of Shuttle services available in the area or book the Crossing transport option available when you book online here through this website or as part of the Summer Crossing Package. Tongariro Alpine Crossing transport is only available in the summer months when freedom walking is permitted. The walk can be done in the winter as part of a guided trip – transport will be arranged with your guide company.
